Who What Where (When) Type Books
An exercise that I developed to give students an opportunity for personal typographic expression while informing them of historical figures in the field of typography. Students are given the name of a typographer at-random and they are required to research, write three essays and find supporting imagery explaining ‘who’ their selected individual was/is, ‘what’ the individual did that is notable and ‘where/when’ the era of their accomplishments happened to put everything in context.
Students were required to design a cover, half-title or title page, table of contents, 3 spreads showing the who, what & where, and a reference page with an optional Colophon. Students were required to print and bind enough copies to share with each member of the class so that everyone walks away with a small library for their personal reference.
